Vol. 550 No. 1

Written Answers. - Residency Permits.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

169 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 996 of 30 January 2002, his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Kildare was given residency status along with his family; if this person will now be reconsidered for naturalisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7434/02]

I informed the Deputy in my reply to Question No. 996 on 30 January last that the person referred to did not appear to meet the age requirement set out in the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956 as amended in 1986, when he submitted an application for naturalisation in November 2000. The application form and accompanying documentation were returned to him at that time. Consequently, the person in question is no longer an applicant for naturalisation.

However, if the person in question submits a fresh application to my Department, I will consider it. I have asked my officials to send an application form to the Deputy for onward transmission to the individual concerned. When my officials have examined the new application, I will advise both the Deputy and the applicant of the position.
