Vol. 550 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

John Bruton

Question:

170 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will assist a club (details supplied) in funding the provision of its own permanent pitch in the Bettystown area, to allow it to provide dressing rooms for those who play on the pitch; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7382/02]

The sports capital programme for 2002 was advertised on 25 and 26 November 2001 with a closing date of 4 January 2002 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,300 applications were received before the closing date. My Department has no record of having received an application from the club in question under the programme. All applications received under the programme are currently being evaluated against its assessment criteria, which are out lined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.

It will be open to the club in question to submit an application to the 2003 programme but it should be noted that projects must be of a capital nature and that the sports capital programme does not assist in the purchase of sites, premises or personal equipment.
