Vol. 550 No. 1

Written Answers. - Exchequer Subventions.

Richard Bruton

Question:

68 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the factors considered in setting the scale of the subvention to the CIE Group; and the rules she set for CIE in determining the division of the subvention between the three operating companies. [7334/02]

The level of subvention payable to CIE each year is settled as part of the Estimates exercise based on proposals from CIE and is determined by reference to: the needs of an expanding public transport system; increased costs within the CIE group; anticipated revenues; and the overall state of the Exchequer finances. The allocation of the Exchequer subvention to the individual subsidiary companies is a matter for the CIE Board.
