Vol. 550 No. 1

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Michael Ring

Question:

93 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the funding available for the Belmullet independent living complex; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7271/02]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the Irish Wheelchair Association's proposed development at Belmullet. The development of health related support services to people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. Priorities for the allocation of funding available for the development of such services are decided by the health boards in consultation with boards' regional co-ordinating committees for physical and sensory disability services. Voluntary sector service providers and consumers are represented on the co-ordinating committees. The Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board with a request that she examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy, as a matter of urgency.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

94 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the delays for patients waiting to be admitted into the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dún Laoghaire; the actions he proposes to take to reduce the waiting period and the waiting list which is now at 230; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7272/02]

The provision of medical rehabilitation services in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority in the first instance. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the Regional Chief Executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority, with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to you, as a matter of urgency.
