Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

131 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the counties included in the new rural transport initiative; her plans to include County Kerry in this scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7949/02]

The rural transport initiative is being administered by Area Development Management Limited on behalf of my Department. I recently announced the names of 33 community groups selected by ADM for funding of pilot rural public transport schemes under the initiative.

Subject to completion of the necessary contractual arrangements, eight of these groups, including Kerry community transport, will shortly commence transport operations in their areas. The other 25 funded groups are about to begin the pre-development phase of the initiative.

The selected community groups are drawn from counties Cork, Limerick, Galway, Wicklow, Mayo, Sligo, Monaghan, Donegal, Kerry, Meath, Cavan, Leitrim, Offaly, Kildare, Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Clare, Wexford, Dublin, Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath, Waterford and Laois.
