Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

138 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Defence the amount of capital expenditure on infrastructural projects by his Department in the BMW region since its establishment to date; the projects funded; the amount of capital expenditure on infrastructural projects in the rest of the country in the same timeframe; and the projects funded. [7834/02]

I understand that the Deputy's question relates to capital expenditure on infrastructural projects concern ing railroads, railway stations, ESB, waterways and gas pipelines. Expenditure on such projects does not come under the remit of my Department. However, I might add that expenditure in the years 2000 and 2001, relating to the Border, midland and western region as defined in the Government's regional development plan, on completed projects relating to military installations amounted to approximately €200,000. Current projects in progress are estimated to cost approximately €450,000, while other proposed projects to be undertaken this year will cost approximately €4.4 million.
