Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

401 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals for the provision of a sewerage scheme for Creggs, County Galway, in the context of some funding being available under the CLÁR programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8104/02]

A preliminary report for Creggs sewerage scheme was submitted to my Department in 1999 but has not been approved.

While the scheme was included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Galway County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments, it was not possible to include it in the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-02, announced in July 2000, because of the level of competing demand, the limited funding available, and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis.

Any question of assistance for the scheme under the CLÁR programme is a matter for the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development.
