Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Child Care Grants.

Michael Ring

Question:

459 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will instruct ADM Limited to expedite a staffing grant application for a community playgroup in Crossmolina, County Mayo. [7454/02]

As the Deputy is aware, the Equal Opportunities Child Care Programme 2000-2006 makes grant assistance available under a range of measures to develop child care services throughout Ireland. Funding for the programme comes from the EU and the Exchequer.

On 26 November 2001 applications for a staffing grant and a capital grant under the programme were received in my Department from the group in question. The applications were immediately passed to ADM Limited, which administers the programme on my behalf, to carry out a technical appraisal of the project proposals. On completion of this process the assessments will be referred to the programme appraisal committee for a recommendation before I make a decision on the applications.

In the interim it would be premature of me to comment further on these applications.
