Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Surveys.

Dick Spring

Question:

603 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education and Science the results of the recent surveys carried out by his Department on the facilities required for second level education in Tralee, County Kerry; and the predicted increase in numbers in each of the second level schools with reference to student numbers in each school during the school year 2001-02. [7821/02]

The planning section of my Department is carrying out an examination of the future post-primary requirements of each of the post-primary schools in the Tralee area. As part of this examination, factors such as housing developments, current and projected enrolments, and the current capacity of schools in the area are being con sidered. This examination is nearing completion and a decision will be made shortly on how best to meet the long-term post-primary accommodation needs of the town. The overall objective will be to ensure that, between them, the local post-primary schools will be in a position to cater for the anticipated number of students from the area requiring post-primary education. The relevant school authorities will be advised of the position as soon as possible.
