Question:

639 Mr. Fleming asked the Minister for Education and Science the total number of teachers employed in schools in County Laois; and the number of remedial teachers, resource teachers, home school liaison teachers and special needs assistants and classroom assistants in schools in County Laois. [8053/02]

There are 355 whole time teachers employed in primary schools in County Laois. This figure includes:

21 learning support (remedial) teachers, 24 resource teachers (full time), and One home school community liaison teacher.

In addition there is the equivalent of eight resource teaching posts sanctioned on a part-time basis. Furthermore, there are 51 special needs assistants employed in primary and special schools in County Laois. At second level, a total of 339.8 whole time equivalent teaching posts have been allocated to second level schools in County Laois this year. This figure includes:

nine whole time equivalent posts allocated in respect of learning support, 5.6 whole time equivalent posts in respect of resource teaching and 1.5 in respect of home school liaison.
