Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Enda Kenny

Question:

174 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if funding will be provided for the development and upkeep of Lecanvey pier, Westport, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9506/02]

The pier in question is owned by Mayo County Council and responsibility for its maintenance and development is a matter for the county council in the first instance. In 2000, Mayo County Council submitted a proposal to my Department concerning the provision of lights and the improvement of protection works at the location, costing a total of €12,697.38 – £10,000. The question of funding works at Lecanvey pier will be considered in the context of the funding available under the national development plan and overall national priorities.
