Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Collection.

John Perry

Question:

302 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if he will intervene on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo and agree to accept a proposal to clear the liability in view of the fact that this is the only offer put forward; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8810/02]

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the outstanding tax debt in this case is substantial. They are in correspondence with the person on the matter and, while they are sympathetic to the difficulties being encountered by him and his wife, they have indicated that they are not in a position to accept the proposal recently made to them as a full and final settlement of the case.

The commissioners require additional information from the person and wish to discuss what further commitment can be made. They are hopeful that the matter can be satisfactorily resolved.
