Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

582 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the case of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who has been an applicant for asylum since 1998 and who gave birth to a son here on 2 November 2000; the status of this person's asylum application and application to remain here by virtue of being the parent of an Irish born child; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8388/02]

The person in question has withdrawn her asylum application and applied for permission to remain on the basis of parentage of an Irish citizen child. My Department has recently requested further information from the applicant and upon receipt of same the application will be finalised.
