Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Coroners Courts.

Dan Neville

Question:

586 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the recommendations of the report by the committee examining the Coroners Courts; and when these recommendations will be implemented. [8484/02]

More than 100 recommendations were made in the report of the working group on the review of the coroner service which was published in December 2000, following a Government decision to approve the preparation of new legislation. A critical part of this legislative preparation involves the development of coroners rules and these are currently being developed by a coroners rules committee which was established in November 2001. The committee expects to complete its work within the next few months. My Department is also examining how implementation of the overall review can best be progressed in advance of introducing the new legislation.
