Question:

809 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education and Science the conditions for approval of an ex-quota chaplain at community colleges; the number of such colleges which do not have such a post; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8900/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 808 and 809 together.

My Department's established position in the matter has been to approve the allocation, on an ex-quota basis, of a post of chaplain to deed of trust type community schools and colleges which arise from amalgamations and greenfield developments. The deeds of trust for such schools specifically provide for the appointment of a chaplain on an ex-quota basis. At present there is no provision for the allocation of a post of chaplain in the case of schools like Scariff, where it is understood there is no deed of trust involved.

Question No. 810 answered with Question No. 714.
