Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

910 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve the appointment of a computer support technician to a college of further education (details supplied) in Dublin 11 which has been applied for by the City of Dublin VEC; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9397/02]

In keeping with long standing policy in the area of staffing in the vocational education sector, the allocation of staff is made on a scheme-wide basis. It is a matter for each vocational education committee to deploy resources in the best possible manner so as to meet the needs of individual schools. However, pending a consideration of the report of the PLC Review Group, my Department has given sanction to City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee for the appointment of two IT technicians on a temporary basis for one year. The Department has also agreed to extend the appointment of a system analyst-programmer, grade V, for a further period not exceeding six months. It is a matter for the VEC to deploy these resources in accordance with its own needs and priorities.
