Vol. 550 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Board Staff.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

107 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will direct the Eastern Regional Health Authority to pay the balance of a pay award to child care workers without further delay. [9571/02]

Róisín Shortall

Question:

112 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons for the delay in the making of back payments to social care workers in a centre (details supplied) in Dublin 6; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that workers have recently been told that they can only be paid two thirds of the back payment at this stage; the reasons for this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9621/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 107 and 112 together.

Responsibility for the implementation of pay awards rests with the health boards. However, I have been advised that the new pay scales have been implemented in full in all health boards to date other than in the East Coast Area Health Board. In the case of this board I understand that payment of the award will be made very shortly. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the ERHA to investigate the matters raised by the Deputies in relation to payment of the award in the ERHA region and reply directly to the Deputies.
