Vol. 550 No. 5

Written Answers. - Audiology Services.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

109 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Galway has failed in their attempts to get the services of an audiologist in the Western Health Board to evaluate the proper type of hearing aid necessary for them; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9573/02]

The provision of community audiology services is a matter in the first instance for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards.

Following the dissolution of the National Rehabilitation Board in June 2000, the responsibility for the provision of community audiology services throughout the regions was assigned initially to the Northern Area Health Board of the ERHA, pending each health board taking over direct responsibility for the services within its own region.

My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the ERHA to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.
