Vol. 550 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

111 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans to upgrade or replace the health centre in Ardara, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9601/02]

The provision of health centres, including the prioritisation, planning and development of such centres, to meet the needs of local communities within its functional area, is a matter for the relevant health board or the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In the case of Ardara this responsibility rests with the North-Western Health Board.

I have been advised by that health board that a new primary care centre for Ardara has been included in its priorities for capital developments under the national development plan and will be progressed in line with available resources. It is intended that the project will be progressed in partnership with the local community, through the local conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Donegal County Council. It is hoped that the development will form a central element of a much larger development, encompassing a social housing scheme and community resource facilities-day centre for Ardara.
