Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Michael Ring

Question:

162 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his Department will allocate funding to a project (details supplied) in County Mayo under the sports capital programme 2002. [9561/02]

Jim Higgins

Question:

163 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if a grant for a driving range for a golf club (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved. [9591/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 162 and 163 together.

The sports capital programme for 2002 was advertised on 25 and 26 November 2001 with a closing date of 4 January 2002 for the receipt of completed applications. More than 1,350 applications were received before the closing date, including applications from the organisations in question. All applications are currently being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

164 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when a club (details supplied) in County Donegal will receive payment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9592/02]

A grant of €101,579, £80,000, was allocated to the club in question under the 2000 sports capital programme administered by my Department. Under the terms and conditions of the programme, the club is required to execute a deed of trust. The deed of trust will provide, inter alia, for a refund of the grant in the event of the facility not continuing to be used for the purpose for which the grant was allocated. It is invoked by my Department's legal advisers, the Chief State Solicitor's office, CSSO. The CSSO and the firm of solicitors representing the club are currently dealing with the execution of the deed of trust and I understand the process is ongoing. Payment of the grant cannot be made until the deed of trust has been executed.
