Vol. 550 No. 5

Written Answers. - Job Creation.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

28 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her plans to help find alternative employment for the 375 workers at a company (details supplied) at Ringsend, Dublin 4; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9329/02]

Following the announcement on 28 February 2002 of the closure of the glass container manufacturing facility in Ringsend, Dublin, the Labour Relations Commission invited both unions and management to exploratory talks. The LRC met with the parties on 7 March 2002, and put a proposal to both sides with a view to securing the future of the plant in Ringsend. Both the company and the trade unions agreed to the proposal and formal talks are now taking place under the auspices of the LRC. The talks are ongoing. I understand the parties are working steadily and constructively and that progress is being made.
