Vol. 550 No. 5

Written Answers. - Personal Injuries Assessment Board.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

58 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has received the report of interdepartmental implementation group on the establishment of a personal injuries assessment board, which she informed Dáil Éireann on 20 November 2001 was expected by the end of December 2001; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9478/02]

Following the Government's decision to establish a personal injuries assessment board, PIAB, an interdepartmental implementation group was set up to progress the establishment of the board. The group has had 11 meetings to date. The group is examining the legal implications, including what legislative changes, if any, will be necessary to establish the PIAB. The work also includes consideration of structures and operational procedures for the board. This has taken longer than was previously envisaged. The group is however, nearing completion of its examination and is now finalising its report. When I receive the report, I will consider it, as a matter of urgency, and will bring proposals to Government thereafter.

Question No. 59 answered with Question No. 21.
