Vol. 550 No. 5

Written Answers. - Company Closures.

Jack Wall

Question:

67 Mr. Wall asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if a company (details supplied) in County Kildare has gone into liquidation; if there were State grants paid to the company; if the employers have received their statutory entitlements; and if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the company may still be trading. [9637/02]

A notification of a collective redundancy required under the Protection of Employment Act, 1977, was received in my Department on 4 December 2001 following the closure of Hoskins Alloys (Ireland) Limited on 19 November 2001. The workers were made redundant with effect from 19 November 2001 and the employer paid them their redundancy lump sum entitlement. A claim for payment of a rebate from the social insurance fund was subsequently received from the company on 15 January 2002 and this application is currently under consideration in my Department.

IDA Ireland has made inquiries in the matter and has been informed by the manager of the company that the parent company in the USA has gone into liquidation. The Irish company has ceased to trade, all employees have been paid off and all debts have been cleared. In relation to the industrial development agencies under the aegis of my Department, IDA Ireland paid €210,549 to the company. There is no outstanding grant liability.
