Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

Michael Ring

Question:

123 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if officers of his Department sought advice, on the subject of possible irregularities in the administration of his Department's afforestation grant and administration schemes, from the Chief State Solicitor's office and the office of the Attorney General, during the months of August and September 1998. [10129/02]

I understand discussions on this matter involving officials of my Department and of the Chief State Solicitor's office took place in August 1998. My Department subsequently decided to commission an independent assessment of possible irregularities in the Department's afforestation grant and administration schemes. Further information on the independent assessment and follow-up action, which to date has not brought to light any case of suspected irregularity as defined by European Council Regulation 2988/95, is contained in Parliamentary Question No. 136 of 21 November 2001, Nos. 110 to 113 of 4 December 2001, No. 105 of 5 December 2001 and No. 100of 19 February 2002.

Question No. 124 answered with Question No. 78.
