Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Phil Hogan

Question:

201 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a suckler cow grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [10155/02]

The person named is an applicant under the 2001 suckler cow scheme for small-scale milk suppliers. The milk quota held by him at 31 March 2001, is 29,642 gallons. The number of cows required to produce this quota is 33.84. This is ascertained by dividing the quota, 29,642 gallons by an average milk yield of 876 gallons. The person named declared on the date of application that the total number of cows both dairy and suckler, owned, possessed, held and maintained by him on his holding was 33. As he has insufficient cows to fill his milk quota, there are no surplus cows eligible for suckler cow premium payment and the person named is therefore not entitled to payment for 2001.
