Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

John Perry

Question:

229 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if buildings from the Office of Public Works will be made available in County Sligo to accommodate asylum seekers and refugees; the property which will be used; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9927/02]

The Reception and Integration Agency of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform is responsible for the accommodation of asylum seekers. In December 2000, acting on behalf of the agency, the Commissioners of Public Works advertised in the national media for greenfield sites which could be leased to accommodate asylum seekers. Several sites and properties in County Sligo were offered and considered by the agency and all have been found unsuitable by it.
