Written Answers. - Refugee Accommodation.

Phil Hogan

Question:

235 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance the financial aspects of the lease with the landowner and the cost of the project associated with the emergency housing provision by the Office of Public Works for asylum seekers at Kilkenny city. [10242/02]

The Reception and Integration Agency of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform is responsible for the accommodation of asylum seekers. The Commissioners of Public Works acting on behalf of the agency have put a licensing agreement in place with the landowner in question to cover the period of construction of the system built accommodation. A lease for a period of four years and nine months has been agreed from the date of completion of the accommodation, and a further licensing agreement for four months has been agreed at the end of the lease arrangement to allow for the removal of the buildings. The annual lease-licence amount is €184,000.00. The estimated total cost of the project to provide accommodation for asylum seekers in Kilkenny is €8.34 million.
