Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

242 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if a refund of medical fees payments made to the registered general practitioner while he had a medical card are made to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9730/02]

Officials from my Department have contacted the South-Western Area Health Board and understand that the person in question was allocated a medical card for the first time on 4 February 2002. Payment to the doctor in respect of this patient started from March 2002.

Since responsibility for the provision of services for persons with medical cards rests with the chief executive officer of the local health board, in this case the Eastern Regional Health Authority, the question has been referred to him for investigation and he has been asked to reply directly to the Deputy.
