Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

253 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide funding for a unit at University College Hospital, Galway for adult persons with cystic fibrosis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9825/02]

The provision and the development of services for adults with cystic fibrosis is a matter for the Western Health Board in the context of funding provided by me and the competing priorities for development. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this matter and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Question:

254 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath is not being admitted for a hip operation at Tullamore General Hospital in May 2002 as promised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9826/02]

Responsibility for the provision of health services to persons living in County Westmeath rests with the Midland Health Board. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.

Question:

255 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children if a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath whose medical condition is critical, can be immediately admitted to St. Patrick's Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9827/02]

The decision as to whether a person should be admitted to hospital is a clinical matter. Responsibility for the provision of services to the person concerned rests with the Midland Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer to make inquiries on behalf of the person and reply to the Deputy directly.
