Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Bernard Allen

Question:

264 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he has taken to deal with the Irish Medical Organisation's concern that, arising from recent social welfare increases, certain categories of social welfare recipients are no longer eligible for a medical card on income grounds and that a single person on the maximum rate of old age contributory pension of ?147.30 per week will be ?3.30 per week over the eligibility limit for a medical card. [9878/02]

My Department has written to the chief executive officers of health boards' group advising them that medical card holders and applicants should be made fully aware that the recent increases in social welfare payments will not disadvantage them when applying to hold or retain a medical card.
