Question:

392 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the amount paid since 26 June 1997 to date in fees, salary, allowances including delegates' allowances, expenses and other payments to any person in or under the aegis of her Department who is or was a special adviser within the meaning of the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995; the name of the person in each case, the amount paid to each person; if he will provide a breakdown as between salary, allowances, expenses and other payments; the date on which each person was appointed; in the case of persons no longer holding such position, the date on which the appointment ceased; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The persons who have served in my Department as special advisers within the meaning of the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995 and the period served are as follows:

Bridget McManus, a Principal Officer in my Department, from 3 November 1997 to June 2000.

Michael Ronayne, from 27 April 1998 to date, Seosamh Ó hÁghmaill, a principal officer in my Department, from 2 June 2000 to date.

I am informed that the total salary paid to Ms McManus during the period was €148,440.66. The allowance paid in respect of her duties as adviser came to €10,721.19. Ms McManus was paid €5,295.74 in respect of travelling and subsistence during the period, including foreign travel subsistence. The total salary paid in respect of Mr. Ronayne during the period was €238,618.04. Mr. Ronayne has been paid €30,379.88 in respect of travelling and subsistence expenses, including foreign travel and subsistence. The total salary paid to Seosamh Ó hÁghmaill during the period was €110,024.11. The allowance paid to Mr. Ó hÁghmaill in respect of his duties as adviser came to €11,002.14. In addition, he has been paid €12,043.16 in respect of travelling and subsistence expenses, including foreign travel subsistence and €145.12 in respect of delegates allowance.
