426 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the amount paid in legal fees by his Department in 1999, 2000, 2001 and to date in 2002; to whom payment was made; and the amount of payment in each case. [10086/02]

The information requested by the Deputy is outlined in the following tabular statements.

The Deputy will recall that details of legal fees paid under the civil and criminal legal aid schemes for 2000 and 2001 were provided to him on foot of Parliamentary Question No. 957 answered on 30 January 2002. I have arranged to have details of fees paid under these schemes for 1999 and 2002 forwarded to the Deputy under separate cover.

I would mention to the Deputy that details of fees paid by my Department in respect of the National Irish Bank and Ansbacher inquiries are included in the statement. These payments can be recouped by my Department from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. I would also mention that the Criminal Assets Bureau has paid €65,613.40 in legal costs to date in 2002. It would be inappropriate, for security reasons, to provide any information on the detail of these costs.
