Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

430 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a visa was refused to a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10164/02]

The visa application in question was refused because it had not been established, on the basis of the documentation supplied to my Department, that the applicant would observe the conditions of a visit visa. In particular it was felt that the applicant had not displayed sufficient evidence of her obligations to return home following her proposed visit.

Although the applicant's stated purpose of journey was that of a visit, reference was made in the letter of invitation from her reference in Ireland to his intention that they be married during her stay here. However, no evidence of the arrangements made in this regard was submitted with the application. It is open to the applicant to appeal against the refusal of the visa application by writing to the visa appeals officer in my Department together with additional supporting documentation.
