Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

458 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when a club (details supplied) in County Donegal will receive payment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10159/02]

A grant of €76,184 was allocated to the organisation in question under the 2000 sports capital programme administered by my Department. This grant was subject to the terms and conditions of the programme, which include the execution of a deed of trust and the examin ation of the drawings and tender documentation by my Department's technical advisers. The deed of trust provides inter alia for a refund of the grant in the event of the facility not continuing to be used for the purpose for which the grant was allocated. It is invoked by my Department's legal advisers, the Chief State's Solicitors Office. The CSSO has been requested to prepare a deed of trust in this case and it will be in contact with the firm of solicitors representing the organisation in this regard. Payment of the grant cannot be made until the deed of trust has been executed.

It should be noted that although the grant was allocated in 2000 and the organisation was informed of requirements at that time, it has only recently submitted the drawings and tender documentation required and these are being referred to my Department's technical advisers for examination and approval and must be approved before payment can be sanctioned.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

459 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the status of the application from Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council for a grant for the refurbishment of the swimming pool at the Dundrum recreation centre. [10160/02]

Under the local authority swimming pool programme, which is administered by my Department, there are four stages in a swimming pool project following the submission of a feasibility study. These, in order of progress, are: preliminary report; contract document; tender and construction. My Department's technical advisers, the Office of Public Works, evaluate each stage and local authorities cannot proceed to the next stage of a project unless prior approval issues from my Department. Grant-aid is allocated only when tenders have been received for the project and will be capped at the time of allocation.

A preliminary report has been submitted by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for the replacement of the swimming pool at the Dundrum recreation centre. My Department has requested further information from the council in connection with this proposal. The application for the swimming pool at the Dundrum recreation centre will be considered further on receipt of this information.
