Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Funding.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

464 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in responding to a representation made on 31 May 2001 and acknowledged by his office on 18 June 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9689/02]

The delay in answering the representation made on 31 May 2001 in relation to the provision of sports facilities at St. Wolstan's Community School is regretted and this matter is now in hand. The current position is that my colleague, the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, has provisionally allocated funding towards the cost of a synthetic all weather hockey pitch at the school under his Department's sports capital programme. In addition, my Department's post-primary building unit has agreed in principle that the funding normally provided for a standard football pitch will be allocated to partly fund this development. Detailed costs and proposals as to how the anticipated shortfall in funding will be financed are awaited from the school authorities in order that this application can be considered further.
