Liam Aylward

Question:

494 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress to date on the provision of a woodwork room and construction studies room at a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [9820/02]

A request for extra accommodation was received in the building unit of my Department on 10 January 2002 and an application for capital funding, form SLE, was subsequently sent to the management authority of the school in question for completion. This form has yet to be returned to my Department. Upon receipt, the matter will be considered further.

Question:

495 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve funding for urgent works required to a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [9821/02]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that a letter approving capital funding for the urgent works referred to issued to the managerial authority of the school in question on 28 February last.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

496 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science when the money for the required physical education hall at St. Tiernan's community school will be provided; and if funding for further physical education facilities must await the outcome of the four pilot schemes of the new template. [9822/02]

The building unit of my Department has overseen the preparation of a PE hall template for generic use in second level schools, which will standardise the construction of PE halls at second level and will reduce the architectural planning processes considerably.

I have recently announced a new innovative programme which will provide at least 80 new state of the art physical education halls in second level schools throughout the country by 2005. The proposed PE hall at St. Tiernan's community school will be provided as part of this programme.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

497 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science if a school building (details supplied) in County Donegal is on schedule for 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9823/02]

The school authorities to which the Deputy refers are to receive a new school and PE hall of 4,767 square metres to cater for a long-term projected enrolment of 500 pupils. This pro ject is currently at stage one of architectural planning.

In January 2002, the building unit of my Department instructed the design team to submit a revised stage one submission and this submission is awaited. This project will progress through architectural planning when the revised stage one submission has been received and examined.
