Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Third Level Grants.

Pat Carey

Question:

529 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science when an appeal against a decision to refuse a third level grant will be determined on behalf of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10050/02]

Special rates of maintenance grant, usually referred to as top-up grants, have been introduced by my Department for disadvantaged students, qualifying for the ordinary maintenance grant, who meet specific conditions. My Department has received an appeal from the candidate, referred to by the Deputy, against a decision taken by Dublin City Council to refuse a special rate of maintenance grant. The appeal is currently under consideration and the candidate will be notified of the outcome.
