Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fees Refund.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

545 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the appeal of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6W to have her fees refunded under the teacher fee refund scheme in view of the special circumstances of her case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10122/02]

The teacher fee refund scheme, which is funded by my Department and administered by the Marino Institute of Education, provides for payments towards third level course and examination fees incurred by primary and post-primary teachers in the successful completion of courses approved by my Department and school authorities. Recommendations on the allocation of payments are made by a monitoring committee which is representative of school management, teacher unions and my Department. The scheme provides for appeal to the Minister against the monitoring committee recommendations and I will consider all such appeals when the initial recommendation and notification process has been completed.
