Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

42 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will consider extending the premium payment period for pre-1993 plantings to 15 years; if he will seek EU agreement on the extension of the normal premium payment period from 20 years to a period which more closely corresponds to the normal lifespan of most forests; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10016/02]

The forest premium for farmers scheme, which operated between 1989 and 1993, contained provision for payment of premiums to farmers over a 15 year period in respect of conifers and 20 years in respect of broadleaves. The general issue of the duration of the normal premium payment period will be addressed in the context of the mid-term review of the CAP rural development plan which will take place in 2003.
