Vol. 551 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Liam Aylward

Question:

157 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children if approval will be given for the application for funding by an organisation (details supplied) in County Carlow to allow them proceed with a project. [10357/02]

The Department of Health and Children does not directly fund voluntary organisations. A proposal from the organisation was received in my Department last year and was forwarded to the South Eastern Health Board for consideration. I have had inquiries made of the South Eastern Health Board and I am informed that the board has had discussions with the organisation and, unfortunately, has indicated that it would be unable to support the proposal as submitted by the organisation, due to the scale of the project. However, the board did indicate that it may enter into discussions with the organisation on renting accommodation within the facility to provide outreach addiction-counselling services and other youth-related services.
