Vol. 551 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drug Treatment Services.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

160 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will pro vide funds for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 22 to attend a drug dependency therapy programme in England; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10360/02]

The provision of drug treatment services is the statutory responsibility of the health boards. I have been informed by the South Western Area Health Board of the Eastern Regional Health Authority that the person referred to by the Deputy is not in contact with the health board drug treatment services.

The health board funds the provision of a range of appropriate treatment services for clients following assessment by its clinicians. These services include detoxification and rehabilitation programmes. The person referred to by the Deputy should make contact with the local drug treatment clinic, which in this case is the Aisling Centre, Cherry Orchard Hospital, where this person can be assessed by the clinicians there.
