Vol. 551 No. 3

Written Answers. - Archaeological Sites.

Austin Deasy

Question:

211 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she has satisfied herself that the site of the 12th Century Augustinian Church at Lower Main Street, Dungarvan, County Waterford, is being fully and properly preserved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10650/02]

I thank the Deputy for making the site location map available to staff from Dúchas, the Heritage Service of my Department. The site is not mentioned in the archaeological inventory for County Waterford nor is it included in the record of monuments and places for County Waterford.

My officials are currently examining the records they have for this site and the church to see if there is any evidence that it is of medieval origin. They will also visit the location to see if there is any evidence for a monument at this location. They will contact the Deputy with the results of their examinations when they are available.
