Vol. 551 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Liam Aylward

Question:

223 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will approve the application for funding by an organisation (details supplied) in County Carlow to allow it to proceed with a project. [10376/02]

An allocation of €190,000 was made to Carlow in late 1999 under the young peoples facilities and services fund. In late 2000 the development group for the YPFSF in Carlow made a submission to the national assessment committee of the fund for the development of a central youth facility for the town and for advice on how best to progress the project. They were informed that no additional funding would be available under the YPFSF outside of their original allocation. I subsequently met representatives from Carlow Regional Youth Service in early 2001 to discuss its proposal.

The development group made a further submission to the NAC in April 2001 seeking permission to use some of the funding allocated to them to develop the necessary plans to secure planning permission for its proposed youth facility. Following a meeting between representatives of the development group and the NAC in May 2001, this proposal was approved and the decision was communicated to the Carlow development group.

I have had no further submission from the development group since then.
