Vol. 551 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

254 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science if the necessary funding will be provided to build eight classrooms, eight offices and canteen facilities at Mercy Secondary School, Mounthawk, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10485/02]

The planning section of my Department is carrying out an examination of the future accommodation requirements of each of the post-primary schools in the Tralee area. As part of this examination, factors such as housing developments, current and projected enrolments, and the current capacity of schools in the area are being considered.

This examination is nearing completion and a decision will be then be made on how best to meet the long-term accommodation needs of each post-primary school, including the Mercy Secondary School, Mounthawk. The overall objective will be to ensure that, between them, the post-primary schools will have the capacity to cater for the anticipated number of students from the area.
