Vol. 551 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

Acting Chairman:

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ulick Burke – the urgent need for the Minister for Education and Science to approve and provide funding for an extension and refurbishment at Killeneen national school, Craughwell, County Galway, where facilities are totally inadequate and substandard; (2) Deputy Kenny – the need to extend the scheme of social service facilities for elderly people to cater for provision of emergency lighting units; (3) Deputy Sargent – that the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands address the shortfall in wildlife rangers countrywide and that priority be given to appointing at least one wildlife ranger for Dublin County, given that this area, which includes illicit trade in exotic species, feral cat and dog related problems and several protected habitats, is currently without protection from Government; (4) Deputy Healy – the urgent need for an extension to Mount Bruis national school, County Tipperary; (5) Deputy Michael Moynihan – Cullen national school, Mallow, County Cork; (6) Deputy Breeda Moynihan-Cronin – the reason for the delay in providing a new school in Kenmare, County Kerry, to provide for the amalga mation of St. Clare's and St. Francis's national schools; (7) Deputy Spring – the need to provide adequate speech therapy and psychological services for children with special needs residing in County Kerry; (8) Deputy Michael D. Higgins – the urgency attached to Galway Corporation being funded for its very successful recycling initiative into 2001 and the importance of public acceptability of this environment initiative being rewarded rather than being punished by refusal of the funding involved; (9) Deputy Durkan – the serious consequences for children and young adults attending St. Raphael's, Celbridge, County Kildare, and similar institutions arising from recent financial cutbacks which will negatively impact on the entire support programme for those with special needs; (10) Deputy Upton – the need to provide half funding for the cost of a child care worker at the Marist primary school-Scoil Íosagáin; and (11) Deputy Enright – the provision of funding for modern swimming pool facilities in the towns of Birr, Tullamore, Clara and Edenderry.

The matters raised by Deputies Upton, Spring, Kenny, and Enright have been selected for discussion.
