Vol. 551 No. 4

Written Answers. - Post Mortem Practices.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

140 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will assist a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in retrieving the remains of their baby for reburial; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10759/02]

In December 1999, my Department wrote to the chief executive officer of each health board and voluntary hospital asking them to put in place arrangements to respond to the needs and support requirements of all parents and families who may have concerns arising from post mortem practises and procedures.

In relation to the specific case raised by the Deputy, my Department has asked the chief executive officer of the South-Eastern Health Board to look into this matter and to communicate directly with the Deputy.
