Vol. 551 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Liam Aylward

Question:

158 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress made by his Department with regard to the provision of a sewerage scheme for the Kelly mount-Paulstown-Goresbridge-Gowran areas of County Kilkenny. [10804/02]

The only proposals submitted to my Department by Kilkenny County Council for the areas concerned relate to water supplies to which I assume the question refers.

Contract documents for the water supply scheme, submitted to my Department by the council in the mid-1980s and revised in February 2001, have not been approved. Elements of the scheme were included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of these assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Due to the level of competing demand, the limited funding available, and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the current programme. However, it will be further considered in the context of the next phase of the programme.
