Vol. 551 No. 4

Defence (Amendment) Bill, 2002: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to authorise, subject to the previous approval of Dáil Éireann in certain circumstances, the despatch of contingents of the permanent Defence Force for service outside the State with the Rapid Reaction Force established by the Laws of the European Union, to extend the area of service of certain members of the Permanent Defence Force, and for those purposes to amend the Defence Act, 1954, in certain respects and to provide for other related matters.

Is the Bill opposed?

Question put and agreed to.

Since this is a Private Members' Bill, Second Stage must, under Standing Orders, be taken in Private Members' time.

I move: "That the Bill be taken in Private Members' time."

Question put and agreed to.
