Question:202 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when the top-up of area based payments will be made; and when farmers will receive this money. [11754/02]

The position is that, at a meeting of the committee on agriculture structures and rural development on 20 March 2002, the proposed amendment to the mountain rate under the 2001 area based compensatory allowance scheme was withdrawn by the EU Commission pending clarification by Ireland in relation to the implementation of the nitrates directive.
