Vol. 552 No. 1

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Michael Finucane

Question:

215 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the status regarding a suckler cow quota for a person (details supplied) in County Limerick. [11927/02]

There is no record in my Department of the person named ever having held a suckler cow quota or having applied to the national reserves for the years 1999 to 2002, inclusive.

It is understood, following recent representations from the Deputy, that the person concerned would not have been eligible for an allocation of quota rights from the 2002 national reserve.

The priority categories to whom allocations from the 2003 reserve will be made will be determined shortly. As indicated in the reply to recent representations, it is doubtful whether the person named will be eligible given the likely priority categories and the amount of quota rights available for distribution.

If, however, he has purchased or leased in some premium rights for 2002, he should contact the quota section of my Department at Michael Davitt House, Castlebar, County Mayo, telephone number: 094-35300, with the name, address and herd number of the transferor or lessor so that the 2002 position may be established.
